Meet Summaries

Boys: In a shake-down meet, this young team came close to scoring in several relays. Team points were provided by a 6th place in the DMR and a 5th place tie in the 55hh. Many Wildcat registered solid initial performances, equaling or surpassing previous PR's.

Girls:  Some excellent first-time performances by this young team. Team points came from a third place 4x800 finish. A third in the 4x1600 that would have propelled the team to a 4th place tie was negated by a disqualification.

Outstanding Performances

Boys: Pete DiGennaro--DMR(1600)/SMR(800) double

Girls: Liz McMahon--DMR(1600), Cara Thayer(1500)

Meet Summaries

Boys:  Despite the loss of a key middle-distance runner, the boys showed improvement, with a number of PR performances. The high hurdle tandem of Joel Wilmore and Chris Juliani scored a second consecutive 5th place tie in the 55hh event. Running out of an early heat due to the coach's too-conservative seed time, Pete DiGennaro raced to a top-5 600 meter time, then doubled back in the 1600m with Greg Allen to grab a 4th place finish. With a second good meet, Brian Ohman threw top-10 in the shot put.

Girls: The girls got going this meet with several place finishes and several near misses. Betsy Bubnack's 4th place individual finish teamed with Christina Phelan for a 4th place team finish in the 1000m relay. She then doubled back in the 400m with another individual 4th place. She and teammate Alyson Morgans placed 3rd in the event. The 1500 relay was a dual of sectional powers Liverpool and Westhill. Wildcats Liz McMahon and Stephanie Bartlett both logged solid times to take the 3rd place slot. Liz's 5:16.0 was the section's 4th best time of the season to date. The gut-race-of-the-day, however, has to go to 8th grader E.J. Reedy, who toughed out her inaugural 3000 meter race despite stomach cramps.

Outstanding Performances

Boys: Joel Wilmore--55hh/200m

Girls: Betsy Bubnack--1000m/400m; Liz McMahon--1500; E.J. Reedy--3000m

Meet Summaries

Boys:   The boys squad put up some of their best marks of the young season while attempting to get out of holiday mode and back into school mode. Following a sluggish meet start in the DMR, the high hurdle tandem of Joel Wilmore and Chris Juliani continued their strange streak of ties(now at three), this time with a 6th place tie for the Wildcats. Brian Ohman threw a PR in the shot and the 4x400 squad of John Kulak, Joel Wilmore, Chris Juliani and Pete DiGennaro turned in a 3rd place in that event, which ranks them #4 in the section to date.

Girls:   Like the boys, some girls felt the long holiday while others registered personal bests in various events. The pole vaulters continue in search of opening height in that event, coming oh-so-close. Lauren DiLorenzo registered a solid first-800 in that JV event. Best finish of the night went to the 4x1600 Relay squad of Elizabeth McMahon, Christine Phelan, Betsy Bubnack and Stephanie Bartlett. While they did not capture the school record they were aiming for, their time placed them 5th in the state in that event.

Meet Summaries

Boys:  The boys enjoyed improved performances by many athletes. Some 'found' strong events for the first time this season. The 4x400 Relay scored a 3rd place, good enough one of the Section's best times of the season. Pete DiGennaro doubled in the 600m. His 1:27.3 ranks as the Section's 3rd best effort to date and meets the standard for the Open Qualifier Meet.

Girls: For the first time this season, the girls team failed to register any top-6 finishes, coming close with several 7th's. That didn't stop some excellent performances, however, as three individuals qualified for the Open Qualifier Meet(Stephanie Bartlett/Betsy Bubnack--600; Elizabeth McMahon--1500) as well as the 4x400 Relay.

Meet Summaries

Boys:  An improving young sprinter group was the highlight of this meet as the 4x200 relay placed 7th, just missing a ribbon finish. The 4x400 relay continues to run well in section, with a 3rd while Pete DiGennaro grabbed another team 3rd with a hard race in the 600 meter.

Girls: The girls continue to race at different distances as they approach championship races. Stephanie Bartlett broke into the Section III 3000 meter ranks with a 6th place while the 4x800 team placed 3rd with their best effort of the season. Kristen Bentley ran her best 55m of the season is achieving a qualifying standard for the Open Qualifier Meet.

Meet Summaries

Boys:  Lack of team size and championship experience tossed in with several key absences and a DQ made for tough going at this year's OHSL's.  The guys will regroup for peak performances at the Sectional Championship.

Girls: Following a difficult Constantino Invitational, the young and small girls squad stepped it up a level with some solid top-6 individual scoring performances by Stephanie Bartlett, Betsy Bubnack, Elizabeth McMahon and Christina Phelan.  Veteran 4x400 and 4x800 relays came through with scoring efforts. The team will look to remain competitive in the tougher Sectional fields. All-League: Betsy Bubnack-600m; 4x800 Relay(Betsy Bubnack, Christina Phelan, Stephanie Bartlett, Elizabeth McMahon)

Meet Summaries

Boys:  Lots of personal records took the edge off a lower team finish than hoped. Best meet finish was provided by the 4x400 Relay, which raced to a 3rd place spot. Pete DiGennaro logged the best individual finish with a 4th place in the 600 meter. Most team members ended their seasons, but several move on to the Select & Open Qualifier meets.

At the 2/17 Boys Select Meet(combined with the girls postponed Section III Championship) Pete DiGennaro ran a tough and gutsy 2nd place 600 meter race in personal record time.

Girls: Following an earlier snow cancellation, the girls second try was held amid another snowstorm. The girls nevertheless met a team goal by finishing in the top half of the section despite missing several key runners. Sectional top-6 place finishers were Christina Phelan(5th-3000m), Elizabeth McMahon(5th-1500m) and Betsy Bubnack(3rd-600m). Relay teams also chipped in to the scoring with a 4x400 3rd place and a 4x800 4th place finish.

Meet: Section III State Qualifiers - Boys/Girls-2/25/03

Meet Summaries

Boys:  Four boys-Pete DiGennaro, John Kulak, Joel Wilmore, Chris Juliani--made the State Qualifier meet this season. All ran well, but Pete came away with the big--a third place PR time in the 600m that earned him a slot on the Intersectional Relay at the State Championships.

Girls: High hopes and game efforts did not pay off for girls team members Christina Phelan, Betsy Bubnack, Stephanie Bartlett, Danielle Scott, Elizabeth McMahon and Kristin Bentley as none were able to advance to States. Elizabeth came closest, with a tough, close 4th place in the 1000m, only .01 second out of third and a spot on the Intersectional Relay. Her PR 3:07.80 was, however, an excellent effort and terrific time for an 8th grader. Danielle Scott saved the best until last as she set a school record in the Pole Vault.
